Lied-Duo Bächli-Nievergelt

We have been working together as a duo continuously since the 1990s. From the very beginning, our collaboration has been characterized by the common desire to explore music, to rehearse it with a great deal of time and precision, and to listen to and communicate it from a historical and musical context. Listening to music in relation to its history and the circumstances in which it was created is both a wish and a concern and seems to us to be essential for a holistic experience of music as a comprehensive event.
With our first recital at the Kino Morgental in Zurich, we embarked on a path that continues to this day and has continuously deepened. More and more our repertoire revolved around the New Vienna School and the following generation. Among others, we had the opportunity to delve into the earliest version of Schönberg’s Gurre-Lieder as piano songs, his Buch der hängenden Gärten, and Erik Satie’s enigmatic epic Socrate.
The distance Berlin-Zurich and our different anchoring in the various countries gives our visible appearance something sporadic, but from the perspective of the continuity of our discussions a deep river has formed that invisibly connects past and present ever more strongly.
In 2021 they were awarded the Werkjahr Interpretation of the City of Zurich.
